OORBDA PROJECT EXECUTION: IT WON'T BE BUSINESS AS USUAL, SAYS ASHIRU

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority, Engr. Dr. Adedeji Ashiru, (FNSE), has told all contractors handling the Authority's projects under the FY2024 appropriation that execution of this year projects will not be business as usual.

Dr Ashiru made this known to the contractors who were invited for the signing of agreement after successfully bided and awarded contracts under the 2024 appropriation at the Authority's Headquarters on Monday July 29th, 2024.

 

He said, "every project started must be completed as there must be no stories of abandoned or uncompleted projects under my administration because every product has production and expiration dates, so it is with every project which has a date of commencement and date of delivery".

 

He congratulated all the contractors who were awarded contracts and called for the signing of agreement, noting that there were lots of others that were declined for not meeting up to the expected requirement after rigorous screening.

 

He informed the gathering that he refused to be tempted to disrupt the procurement exercise started by his predecessor, but only ensured that due process was followed. Emphasizing that none of the contractors present at the occasion has been specially favoured, as he never knew any of them.

Engr. Ashiru assured that he will personally visit every project before payment is made having taken the pain of going to all the project sites in the four states covered by the Authority alongside with his team to see stage of the projects himself.

 

The Managing Director advised the contractor to visit the site of the project to be handled, in order to be sure that what they have bided for was accurate, precise, unambiguous and according to the best practices because variation after award shall not be entertained.

 

He advised those who do not have the capacity for the job to withdraw while the next most qualified bider shall be contacted to pick it up, as payment shall be done based on the percentage of work done.

 

Engr. Ashiru also told the audience that he stands for what is right and will meet the expectation of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on his mandate of job creation and food security for teeming Nigerian populace.

 

He allayed the fear of contractors not getting their payments as at when due, saying that the government had made provision for money for every project to be executed under the FY2024 appropriation.

 

The meeting was attended by invited contractors, the Management and other members of staff of the Authority having oversight functions over the contract to be executed.
